Archaeological excavations have been conducted in the Bakony Hills under the supervision of Balázs Szabolcs Nagy, assistant professor at ELTE's Institute of Archaeological Sciences. In the courtyard of the long-established Benedictine Monastery in Bakonybél, archaeologists unearthed the medieval antecedents of the building. In Borostyánkút, they excavated a hermit’s cave, which is assumed to have been the dwelling place of Saint Gerard of Csanád.
