A few years ago, Abdulrahman arrived in Hungary for a master’s degree. Now, as a proud fresh alumnus, he’s ready to lead research that indeed makes an impact and changes lives. Here’s how he envisions this global mission that’s just getting started in his alumni journey.

After many hours spent in the labs and classrooms of ELTE, Abdulrahmann is graduating with a clear plan: to tackle genetic disorders, mentor the next generation of researchers, and bridge the gap between science and society, especially in regions where access to knowledge can mean the difference between life and loss. Once a Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship holder, in a few years, a life-changing researcher? Here’s how he envisions his future as an alumnus and Hungary’s impact on his journey.

„As I graduate from my master’s studies in Molecular Genetics, Cell- and Developmental Biology at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), I look back with deep gratitude and forward with strong ambition. This milestone isn’t just the end of a chapter—it’s the beginning of a lifelong journey shaped by the experiences, friendships, and knowledge I gained in Hungary.

My next big step is to pursue a PhD and continue my research in developmental genetics. I want to contribute to science not only through academic publications but also by mentoring young researchers, especially from underrepresented regions. Long-term, I see myself leading a research group that focuses on genetic disorders and works to make scientific knowledge accessible and impactful.

In five years, I envision myself as an established early-career researcher, working across borders, contributing to genetic research that addresses real-world health challenges. I also hope to be involved in science communication—helping bridge the gap between labs and the public, particularly in the Global South.

Hungary has profoundly shaped my vision for the future. It gave me the space to grow in a supportive international environment, and the SH scholarship made this journey possible. From walking along the Danube to presenting my research in the lab, every experience helped me discover my potential.

To all those who shared this journey with me, thank you. To Hungary—köszönöm szépen. And to the future—I’m ready.”

Abdulrahman’s story is a powerful reminder of what happens when education meets opportunity, and why staying connected matters. Because when alumni stay engaged, they don’t just reflect on the past, they shape the future. They build networks, spark collaborations and create impact across borders.
